Question by yundausa: 1080P should i buy now or wait to prices go down or just buy a 1080i flat panel?
There is a lot of problems coming in the future to all the common people who enjoy watching TV. First almost everybody who has a lcd or plasma TV right now, maybe in the future ( 2 or 3 years maybe less) have to change it because of hdcp or 1080P resolution to be able to enjoy real HD ( blue disk or hd dvd ) so what should i do wait with my big 32 tube TV or grab one lcd. and which one the 1080i cheaper or the 1080P 1 at least 1 more grand abd maybe both without hdcp?

things are moving but not very quickly the true 1080p sources are yet to come so id say hold on to your tv for now wait like 6 months then take a look, 1080p or 1080i are useless unles you have a hd source and remember blu ray and hddvd both cost about 700$ not to mention that the discs are more expensive as well, so wait a little then buy a new tv.

lets start by saying, HD right now is a RIP OFF.

i have a 1080p LCD. and most of the HD TV channels are not 1080p. most are 720 only. i live in Los Angeles and here we only have 1 channel in 1080p (KOCE, public TV for orange county, not LA). stay with your 32″ tube for now. normal TV, even dish/direct/cable, look terrible on an HD sets.

when the time comes get a 1080p TV (LCD, PLASMA, what ever).

why do most retailers sell 720p TVs? they make standard def signal look better than 1080p TVs and 1080p DVD will look great. (although with less resolution). and about the resolution, it makes little difference when you actually get down to it. i use an conversion DVD player (samsung $ 69) to play on my TV. it looks great from a normal viewing distance (6 feet or more).

if you have to get one, get 1080p to be future proof for the time being. but don’t spend a lot on it.

and i am under the understanding that 1080 will be the highest the FCC will allow for the far future.

the TV i have is an emprex 3701 (37″ LCD w/digital tuner). pic is great has lots of inputs and was cheap $ 899.00 at outpost.com

    hope this helps.

IF YOUR GONNA SPEND A COUPLE THOUSAND DOLLARS (AT LEAST) ON A TV DO YOU WANT TO REPLACE IT NEXT YEAR WHEN YOU DECIDE TO BUY A HD DISC PLAYER?
ALWAYS FUTURE PROOF YOURSELF WHEN EVER POSSIBLE.
YOU DON’T NEED TO LOOK FOR HDCP, IT’S INCORPORATED INTO THE HDMI INPUT WHICH ARE ON ALL NEW HDTV’S
