Question by JK: Blue Ray Players & Upscaling?
I have a home theater with an old DVD player connected via component video to a new Denon receiver with Faroudja scaler that upscales to 1080p and outputs to a 1080p plasma TV through HDMI. It does a fabulous job. If I replace the DVD player with a Blue Ray player with HDMI, will the upscaling be done by the player or the receiver? Is it possible to choose to have the receiver do it? Or, will the receiver simply pass on the upscaled signal from the player to the TV? The reason why I ask is that most of our collection is DVD, and I can buy an economy Blue Ray player if I can have Denon handle the processing.

A Blue-Ray player plays DVD also and auto upscale, if you want to buy a regular player get it with that feature, but the receiver do its job anyway.Blue-Ray movies no need to upscale but like other movies or CD`s not all companies make good products, if you love gaming you can get a PS3, I have it now, great BD player, plays everything including avi format disc and you can put all your photos and music from CD and iPod there.

The player does upscaling, the receiver only upscales to 1080p with component and composites cables connections. You can’t choose the one to do it.
