Question by sirhandsome87: Is there such a thing as a brand of hdmi cable being better than others?
I recently bought a panasonic viera plasma tv with 1080p and plan on hooking my ps3 to it using a hdmi cord. I was plan on getting a hdmi cable put i want one that will give me the best quality, I don’t want one that will just do an ok job. I see on the cables that they have a bandwidth of 10.2 gbits, 4.92gbits, or 15.2 gbits. Does this value really matter? Is there a special surge protector I need for a plasma?

There are various grades of HDMI cables. The HDMI format has been an evolving standard. The earliest format has lower bandwidth than the newer ones. There is an article in Broadcast Engineering that does a good job of explaining the various standards and types of HDMI cables. I
recommend you copy and paste the link below into your browser and read the article several times to get a good understanding of what is going on.

The only “must-have” I hear when it comes to finding a quality hdmi cable is that the cable ends are gold plated. I’ve heard you don’t need to buy the most expensive hdmi cable on the market, but that you can get just as good quality picture from a more affordable hdmi cable. Here’s a great selection of hdmi cables that start out as low at $ 7, http://www.trianglecables.com/hdmi-to-hdmi-cables.html I’ve bought a few other computer cables from that site so hopefully you can find the right hdmi cable for your PS3. Hope this helps you out some!
