Question by : Is this a good home theater system?
First of all, this will be in my front room for about a year till i move into my dorm. This is not for my living room. So will this surround sound system be good for a smaller room? Now dont look at the price. Because best buy has a package with that surround sound system and panasonic 42 inch 1080p plasma tv. and can you tell me if this is a good deal for the money?

All home theater in a box are cheap and they are not very flexible in adding any other equipment to them. Beside that when one item fails you have to replace the whole system. Don’t count of the power rating of the system. I would recommend an Onkyo HT-S model from 3100 which is around $ 400 from Fry’s Electronic. It is a 7.1 receiver and a set of 7.1 speaker, just add a Panasonic BD-85 blu ray disc player and you have a better system, You can upgrade and add other equipment to it as you upgrade down the road. Panasonic tv is also a very good tv. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tv along with other equipment. You will notice more Panasonic TV being recommended than any other brands. Hope this will help you out.

panisonic is ok but if you want really good quality and more bang for your dollar
go with a samsung or a phillips even a sony and make sure your hdtv is lcd and not plasma plasma is to expensive to repair and not worth it
Personally, for your purposes and setup, I think you will be quite happy with this package. Make sure you budget for the HDMI cable for the blu-ray! Yes, there are plenty of better sound systems out there but I think, unless you are an audiophile, that you will find the surround sound with this system quite good in a small room. If you eventually move to a bigger room, you will want to upgrade.
