Having read the CNET review of the 50 inch television of this line(50pg30) I was surprised at the inky blacks the 60PG30 produced. I am not much of a student of "Accurate Color" but I can tell you that the picture is gorgeous and immersive from all angles. Streaming "Spartacus" on my PS3 I've caught myself bracing for the splash of synthetic blood(No, it is not a 3-D model =)
At about 100 pounds without the base, it actually didn't put any more stress on the wall mount than my 3 year old 42" samsung. This television is around 3 inches thick, so while not LED thin, it is still quite stunning on a flush mount. There is a thin silver pinstripe(not my favorite style cue) near the bottom of the flush glossy frame and an understated glowing power button on the bottom right.
The sound is quite good for a display of this type. Voices are quite clear even amidst background noise. Obviously those who want theater bass are going to need an external system(or at minimum a subwoofer).
There is a convenient hdmi as well as composite input on the left edge, with the remainder of the ins and outs located left center on the rear of the TV(right center if you're looking at the back).
I would highly recommend buying this TV over similarly priced 50" or 55" models. It is a beautiful television with a big beautiful picture. You can go bigger for the same money with DLP projection, but picture quality, brightness, viewing angle, and space consumption are not going to compare(not to mention replacing bulbs). This 60" plasma is the perfect blend of price, size and quality. I am very happy with my purchase.
The shipping company guys carried it up four long flights of steps then set up it up for her and showed her how to work it. I was not expecting that to be frank.
When I talked to her she said it had the best picture she had ever seen and the sound was just like in theaters. As far as she is concerned it is the best present she ever received. To qualify that a little, I have purchased her several TV as well as living room, bedroom and dining room sets and many other expensive items over the years.
My only concern is that Plasma TV tend have a short life and my mother always keeps the TV on 24/7 but other than that I think everything is rock solid.
